A boy who I occasionally babysit was born addicted to heroine and other drugs, because his mother had used them during the pregnancy. He was adopted right after birth by a family that cares for and loves him immensely. Because of his mother's drug use during the pregnancy, he has developmental issues that often lead him to become extremely frustrated and angered easily. At 4 years old, he doesn't interact or learn the way a 4-year-old should and it has been determined by doctors that he will probably be in special-education classes as he gets older. I remain very patient with him and don't let his sudden temper-tantrums and outbursts deter me. I know he wants to express himself as badly as I want him to, and I try my hardest to work with him and make it a little easier for him to get his point across. When I feel myself getting frustrated at his screaming, I remind myself that he didn't ask for this. I try to help him play with the cards he was dealt.
