Children have long been my passion, from my early 20's when I was a nanny until I became a preschool teacher in a holistic preschool and then worked with special needs birth-to-3-year-old's. Currently, I teach newborn care (Saturdays) at a major local teaching hospital. I am also now a proud stay at home mom of 2 daughters, (9 & 6).
By providing part-time care for only 1 or 2 (preschool or school-aged children,) in my home, I feel like I am able to provide the best of both worlds- the individual attention, comfort and natural rhythms of a home environment with the socialization, stimulation and rich open-ended activities of a great developmental preschool. A typical day might include digging in my garden, running through the sprinkler, singing loudly on the way to the library or park, a healthy snack and a messy open-ended art project or nature-based craft, depending on what excites your child. I frequently rotate my wonderful collection of developmental toys to keep it interesting, regularly bring home great childrens' books from the library, and keep art supplies at child level so that children can create whenever they feel the urge. Of course, my home is free of smoke and firearms (as well as furry creatures). I live on a cul-de-sac, which is great for riding toys or b-ball. Our yard is very wooded and conducive to digging and outdoor play and exploration, bird-watching and bug catching. We live in Woodcoft, near the Streets at Southpoint, in SW Durham.
