All throughout high school, I had a real passion for people with special needs. In my church youth group there was a kid who had autism. He had the biggest heart. Unfortunately, he was neglected and ignored by the other kids. I started to really feed into his life and found he was one of the kindest and sweetest kids I have ever known. Our relationship grew and eventually we were hanging out at least once a week. After about six months hanging out with him, I found two other boys with learning disabilities. Where it used to be just the two of us, it was now the four of us hanging out on a weekly basis. Now that I am away at college, I can no longer have my weekly get-together with the guys. Hanging out with them was the highlight of my week. They are the most genuine, caring people I know. I really have a compassion for people with special needs and would love to meet someone else to care for.
