I have cared for children diagnosed with Autism for the past eight years. My younger cousin was diagnosed with Autism at 2 years old, and ever since then our families lives have been consumed with it. My family owns, and operates the School of Autism and I have worked their with the children. I have also done baby-sitting gigs for numerous parents at the school. I am aware of special needs diets (I. E. casein, gluten free, etc.), sensory work, and direction. I also have some experience with children who have add, ADHD, and other sensory disorders. I have a tremendous amount of experience with children. I started my baby-sitting career at 12 years old, after I received my baby sitters training, and CPR certification. I must note that at this point my CPR certification has expired but I am willing to renew it if I am offered the position. Since then I have had experience taking care of about 16 different children, usually two or more at a time in a home setting. My experience with children ranges from newborns to 11-year-old's. About half of my clientele has been parents of autistic children. I have also worked and volunteered with the School of Autism as needed for the past four years. My tasks at the school included building a summer reading program for some of the more advanced students. I directed the students during "Signing Times" videos (videos that teach the children sign language). Also I did teachers aid duties in the classrooms. I helped with supervision on the playground and during free time and also had lots of one-on-one and group interaction with the kids. I also did a lot of office work. I am registered with the O. Child Care Division "Criminal History Registry". I also have a drivers license, car, and have car insurance in case this position requires any transporting. My O. Food Handlers Card expired this last June, but as with the CPR I am also willing to renew this. Coming from a single parent household I've had to fend for myself most of my life... In saying that, it must be noted that I have good experience in both cooking and cleaning. I love to do activities with children. I am not the type who will sit them in front of the TV and do my own thing. I prefer for children to have FUN! If the parent permits, I like to take them out to the park, or maybe a day at the zoo, children's museum, or swimming pool depending on the child's interest. I love doing art projects, or fun cooking activities, playing board games, and will even happily partake in dress up or tea parties.
