As a 56-year-old wife, mother, and grandmother of 4, I've cared for all ages, in sickness and in health! During my own bout with cancer 18 years ago, I came to truly appreciate the value of those I depended on for help and support. It's the most rewarding feeling in the world when I can help someone get through the day to day tasks, fix them a great meal (LOVE to cook), help with grocery shopping, take walks, hold their hand at the doctor's office, do crafts, do all of the things they can't do for themselves, and be a companion and a friend.
My experience covers caring for very sick or injured children to my 78-year-old father in law dying of kidney failure, emphysema and rapidly declining Alzheimer's. I've dealt with a boatload of medical emergencies, beginning in 1976 when I was certified in GA as an EMT. I then worked for 18 years in the field of cardiac technology. Because of that training, I'm blessed with the ability to respond calmly and efficiently to any medical situation.
My love of caregiving extends to animals as well. I'm the one who will stop traffic to rescue an injured animal, raise baby birds abandoned by their mother, move a turtle out of the road, and rescue abandoned abused animals. I have many years of experience with a variety of animals including, but not limited to, dogs, cats, turtles, iguanas, chameleons, ferrets, sugar gliders, pond and aquarium fish.
In many ways animals are like people who need care. They're vulnerable and dependent. That's all the reason I need.
