The teaching tools implemented were mostly TEACCH and a communication skills program inspired by sign language (Makaton). I would teach arts and crafts, expression through movement, dance, singing and theater, academic subjects (basic French or English, basic mathematics and logic), everyday skills such as hygiene, cooking, shopping, following a schedule, taking the bus, counting money, house cleaning, medication management, etc., and of course, communication and behavioral skills.More ”
I take my work extremely seriously, whatever the setting may be, and pay special attention to collaborating efficiently with my clients' and patients' close relations, my colleagues or any other professionals involved. I am attentive to details alongside seeing the bigger picture and providing decision making accordingly. I am very flexible and patient, capable of successfully combining terrain and administrative work, as well as balancing the different practical and theoretical aspects they may entail.
Whether as an expressive arts therapist or as an educator working with mentally challenged persons my focus has always been providing a service of excellence to my clients and patients. I am dedicated to helping each person I work with find or reinforce their strengths and resources in a creative and secure environment so that they can be as self-reliant and integrated as possible in a world that is becoming more and more complex.
Shared poetry, fun and laughter being important parts of life and fundamentally therapeutic in my opinion, I include them in my work whenever and wherever appropriate and possible.
I have also been working as a teacher's assistant in a French immersion preschool since April 2012 and am enjoying learning a whole new set of skills as I explore the fascinating and sometimes challenging world of childhood.
