My most significant experience assisting people with special needs was at Medallion Supported Living facility in Lehi, where I had the pleasure of serving as a weekend H. T. (Rehabilitation Therapist) for two years in the group home. The most fun part of the job, while there on weekends, was being able to work with the higher functioning residents to prepare meals in cooking class. We worked together getting chores and laundry done, and then were able to enjoy walks and van rides for trips to stores and parks in the community. I also worked in a day-training/workshop facility, assisting with tasks the clients were able to perform for piece-rate pay; also caring for personal hygiene, behavior management, feeding, etc., as needed for those with more limited abilities. I've also had many years as a CNA, assisting elderly people to maintain as much strength, safety, dignity and quality of life as possible.
