Hi, I'm 21 years old and a recent college graduate. My motivation to work with children with special needs is my belief in the potential that lies in each and every child. In 2009, I volunteered at the summer program for the Longmont Elementary Day Treatment Program. I also recently completed my degree in Psychology, with a concentration in Neuroscience, at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. I can offer my experience working with children with special needs and my background knowledge in psychology and neuroscience.

As part of my degree, I conducted a Senior Capstone Project that examined the neurological basis of Autistic Disorder and why music therapy may be an effective treatment method. I have an understanding of the spectrum of Pervasive Developmental Disorders as well as other psycho-pathologies. During my time at the Longmont Elementary Day Treatment Program, I worked in a team comprised of two therapists from the Mental Health Center of Boulder and Broomfield Counties, a Behavioral Interventionist, two classrooms leaders and two classroom aides. I had the opportunity to assist in implementing individualized treatment plans and develop therapeutic relationships with children with Severe Emotional Disturbance, Bipolar Disorder, and Autistic Spectrum Disorders. I also gained training in crisis prevention and intervention. I am most experienced working with children with cognitive and developmental needs, however, I am confident that I could learn to address physical and health related needs with your child as I am willing to undergo further extensive training.
