I have worked seven years in a company which provide group homes for people with Physical, Emotional and/or Mental disabilities. My responsibilities include administering medications, taking blood sugar and pressure when needed and documenting health and safety issues; assisting in day to day activities such as, cleaning the house, cooking meals, transportation; emotional counseling; maintaining personal hygiene, social interaction with roommates and the community, and maintaining safety and security in the homes. Always with the focus of helping each residence to achieve the most out of their independence! Through this job I have my Med. Training/certification and CPR and First Aid training/certification.

Before this I volunteered in a classroom for mentally and physically challenged children. I worked with kids from ages 8 to 22. I took the kids out one on one for walks and playtime; I assisted with meals, cooking and feeding when needed; I helped with arts and crafts and outdoor activities; I also assisted on field trips and group outings.

I worked in a daycare, working with Children from ages 3 up until 15. While there I played and interacted with all the children. I was in charge of outdoor play and activities as well as being in charge of preparing lunch and cooking dinner for those who stayed later. I also cleaned up the facility afterward.

I coached kids in wrestling in public schools for 5 years. I've coached every age group having kids in camps as young as 3 and as old as 18. Along with the teaching aspect of this job I always stress having fun is first and foremost.

Working with someone with special needs is very rewarding. The best part is helping them do things that they might not even know or think they are capable of. I have a lot of experiences with all kinds of special needs and disabilities and I've found the one universal truth is the special need is NOT the person! It's a trait and a unique aspect of that person. My favorite part of the job is getting to know all of the other unique traits and aspects they have to offer as well!
