My experience has mostly been with my daughter of 13 years. She has a clinical diagnosis of Angelman syndrome with autistic behaviors and is non-verbal. I have also taken special education courses including PECS, augmentative communication, and behavior management. I may not have paid experience but my life with my daughter has taught me invaluable skills and knowledge on caring for a child with special needs. More importantly caring for her has taught me compassion, patience, understanding and love. Children with special needs are really not different from us. They need love and understanding, just like any other child and just like us.
