Hi, my name is Bethany. Let me tell you a little about myself. I am a licensed K - 12 special education teacher. I spent 3 years teaching at Public Schools. I taught students with multiple disabilities who fell into the severe/profound category. During my years teaching I became familiar with many special needs diagnosis's and learned to care for each student's unique needs. I also know lots about IDEA and students IEPs. Not only did I teach in the classroom, but I have worked for 3 years as a Home Instructor for PS. As a home instructor, I go into student's homes who are too medically fragile to participate in a school setting, or have severe behavior issues and have been removed from the school setting and teach them on an individual basis.
After working with PS, I spent some time working at the a residential habilitation facility for individuals with multiple disabilities. During my time there I worked as a direct care provider for the residents taking care of their daily life needs.
From August 2011 - June 2012 I worked as a full time nanny for a 7-year-old with Multiple disabilities. Sadly in June 2012 her family moved to Idaho. I worked with her in her home, as well as in the community during our daily outings. Some of my duties included feeding her pureed foods, preparing/administering her g-tube feed, giving her medicine via g-tube, changing her diapers, dressing, bathing, lifting/transferring, and providing all her other daily living needs, while maintaining her personal safety and well being. Beyond providing her daily living needs, I worked with her on developing her tolerances for new things, introduced new toys to her, helped her develop some in the area of communication, read novels to her, and did my best to broaden her horizons.
I love working with the special needs population and helping individuals develop to their fullest potential! Over the last few years I have had some amazing experiences working with individuals spanning a variety of needs, ages, and levels of disabilities.
If you have any questions, I would be more than happy to share some of my experiences with you. I do have experience working with high-functioning, learning disabled students as well. I have had previous CPR and First Aid training. As stated, I have worked in many environments including school, home, community, and residential settings. I am willing to learn and eager to help.
