I have a (slight) hearing loss and my brother has cerebral palsy so I was introduced to a lot of people with special needs early on. A lot of my first babysitting jobs were for children with special needs (the children in my brother's early intervention center). In my professional life, I've worked at the Italian Home for Children with 4-12-year-old children with emotional, behavioral and psychiatric difficulties, and I've also worked at the May Institute with children and adults with autism, brain injury, mental retardation, PDD, and other behavioral health needs. I believe individuals with special needs deserve respect, equal access, and the same rights and privileges as everyone else.
