I worked 15 years in business and decided to change careers. I obtained a Master's in Elementary & SPED Education & a Sixth Year Degree in Educational Psychology. I have 11 years experience working with special needs children. I love working with children and helping them succeed to have a fulfilling life. Below is my philosophy of teaching.
I seek to support students to meet the challenges of education by strengthening and developing their academic and self-management skills. The focus is to insure that students in the program have a realistic chance to persist in school and graduate. To accomplish these objectives I provide services to enhance students' academic success, personal skills and social skills. Providing services in these areas corresponds to support students' intellectual development, personal growth and community advancement.
My role is to assist every student to attain maximum educational and personal-social growth with a wide variety of services, direct and indirect, designed to meet the developmental needs of students. To attain this, I work with students individually and in groups, with parents, with teachers and with administrators. Assessment is an important aid to understanding the progress of a child and I use a wide variety of objective instruments for diagnostic, aptitude and achievement assessment.
The fundamental aim is to assist in the integration of students with their peers in the classroom by differentiating their instructional programs. Small group instruction is provided to students who are experiencing learning difficulties and helping them build and strengthen skills that enable them to succeed in the regular program. Phonics skills, reading comprehension and writing form the basis of instruction. The focus of this support is on class assignments and basic skills, as well as working with teachers to develop study skills and learning strategies to help these students succeed in the regular classroom.
Working closely with students, teachers and parents to create an environment that best meets the social and emotional well-being of each learner is my aim. Appropriate lessons are implemented throughout the year, as well as, a strong emphasis placed on effective problem solving and empathetic communication skills.
