I currently work in a classroom with preschoolers that have a variety of special needs. I have worked in the same classroom for four years, but have had about six years of experience working with this age group. I am also currently obtaining my bachelor's degree in Special Education for children in grades Kindergarten - 12th, and am a few classes away from graduating. I have worked with students with a range of needs, including autism spectrum disorders, emotional-behavioral disorders, Down syndrome, physical disabilities, cognitive disabilities, visual impairments, hearing impairments, communication disorders, and traumatic brain injuries. I am familiar with several different communication devices and have worked with children that have feeding tubes, though I have never actually fed them. I have a small knowledge of Braille, and am able to communicate in Sign Language and Spanish to some degree. I truly enjoy working with children with special needs and feel it is my passion in life. I enjoy helping children with every needs they have and believe that every child has their own personality and ability to learn, even if it doesn't "look" like typical children. I feel it is my job to teach them, advocate for them, and help them learn to advocate for themselves. Any chance I get to help a child with special needs warms my heart.
