I have worked at a school for children with special needs for the last 2 years as an assistant teacher in a preschool classroom. Prior to this, I worked at a day care center for 3 years. I worked primarily with toddlers and preschoolers, but also worked in the infant room for approximately 6 months. After my first child was born, I decided to stay home and become a daycare provider. I did this for 3 years and then returned to work outside the home part time. My son had special needs and I spent a lot of time learning about his diagnosis and making sure his needs were met educationally, emotionally, etc. I was on the board of the CSE, shared decision making team, and spent many hours in the classroom assisting with activities. I am very loving and compassionate and get tremendous joy out of being a part of a child's happiness and success. I feel that the littlest things are so exciting, a new word or sign, the way a child responds to a song or a story. I love to get down on the floor or where ever and play, or get messy exploring sensory activities like foam soap, play-doh, paint, etc. I believe that a lot can be accomplished with patience and love. A smile and a hug go a long way as well!!
