Michele Y. - Virginia Beach Special Needs Caregiver

Profile of Michele Y.

Part-Time, 1 Year of Experience

Hello, my name is Michele and I am really excited that my aunt told me about Care.com. It benefits everyone in need! In the past, I was a personal tutor to two children, both elementary age. The little boy has Asperger's syndrome, and I tutored him in phonics. His little sister has autism, and I taught her basic sign language. This was the best time of my life! I love children, and it felt so wonderful to help them better themselves in their studies, despite their disabilities. I have recently gone back to school to receive my bachelor's in interdisciplinary studies, specializing in special education. I have participated in observing and helping out in special need classrooms last year. I am hoping to find a position where I can become more involved and learn all I can and offer my help to children and their families. I know that my work schedule is tight due to school, but I may be able to be more flexible. I have a 6-year-old daughter, and if some days she could tag along, it would permit me to be more available (nights and weekends). I am hoping to meet some amazing people and offer my skills and love!
Related Hobbies and Interests
I am conversational in sign language, but not fluent. I am able to teach basic signs to those children who cannot verbally communicate and need to find an alternative way.
