Cathy R. - San Francisco Special Needs Caregiver

Profile of Cathy R.

Full-Time, 10 + Years of Experience

I empowered a 79-year-old female client three years post hemiplegic stroke and her 80-year-old husband with dementia and glaucoma. I set up and ran a therapeutic, fun, nurturing healing home for the couple. I brought Brain Gym and leading brain recovery techniques to the therapy program. I supported all religious endeavors and busy social life and cooked all meals. I encouraged getting over learned helplessness and identified those activities and chores that supported my clients keeping and regaining mental capacity. I identified those skills and habits that would nurture the staying in the home process and coached and reinforced those behaviors. I was their chauffeur, scheduler and helped with all areas of personal care and then as clients were able stood back while they regained their independence helping as needed. Supported drop-ins at the dinner table were welcome because of the open house policy for their good friends and relatives. Was a Jill of all trades and helped all find joy.
