As a caregiver, my aim is to ease the burden on the clients I serve so that they can live their lives with independence in the convenience and privacy of their own home or place of residence. I am 29 years old, a non-smoker, born and raised in San Francisco. I am a native English speaker, with limited Spanish speaking skills. I have more than one year of formal experience as a caregiver in a non-medical environment, although I have taken on the role of caregiver for family and friends throughout my life.
I am able to care for clients with many different needs. I have references available, am in the process of becoming CPR/AED certified (expected date of certification: early-mid November 2009) for adults, children, and infants, have a clean DMV record!
I am currently furthering my education by working toward a nursing degree; and in the coming months will be in training for my CNA/HHA license in hopes to better serve my clients. I know and understand how important, and sometimes daunting, managing ADL (activities of daily living) can be for these people: seniors and convalescing adults throughout the course of a condition or chronic disease; persons with disabilities, accident victims, expectant or new mothers and those recuperating from a recent surgery; patients who are terminally ill (hospice care); and family caregivers wanting to take a break or vacation (respite care).
I am especially interested in working with patients with disabilities or special needs and I sincerely enjoy being around and working with people of all ages. I'm intelligent and responsible, patient, gentle and caring, and I take great pride in the work I do. In the past, I have worked for IHSS in addition to working with other clients on an on-going per diem basis. I am confident that my love for the job of caring for others, trustworthiness, ability to work with persons of diverse backgrounds and those with specific needs, take direction well, as well as my past work experience and positive referrals will be of interest as someone whom you may wish to hire. I look forward to making a positive impact in your life! At the moment I am taking a break from college (until spring) and I am available for all shifts including full time, part time, 24 hour shifts, on-call, nights and weekend positions. Once my class for CNA/HHA starts, my schedule will change a bit and will be posted here.
Below are special skills I have to offer my clients. I have experience facilitating personal development of clients, helping them work through their physical limitations. I can do comprehensive care planing, including problem solving and monitoring patients. I am able to call in and pick up prescriptions, coordinate doctor appointments, offer meal planning and preparation, light cleaning, help with personal tasks and companionship. I also demonstrate unwavering patience and understanding with confused patients. I can also research medical facilities which offer specialized care in relation to specific medical needs as well as financial aid and medical assist programs clients may benefit from.
I have the following transferable skills which may be of use to clients: solid telephone skill-set and communicates in a professional manner; 45 wpm typing speed/5800 KPH 10 key typing speed; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Expression Web; basic understanding of data entry, Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; and general understanding of standard office equipment.
