I have experience with working with special needs children. For two years, I nannied a young girl with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome. Though I don't know sign language, we communicated quite easily. I would watch her while her mom worked all night. We played games, colored/painted, read books, watched movies, and went swimming. I cooked and prepared her meals, helped her bathe and got her to bed. I really loved hanging out with her. For the past two years, I was a "teen" sitter to another girl with Down Syndrome. She and I would hang out all day during summers and after school during the school year. I helped her with homework, cooked and prepared her meals, took her to her appointments, youth group, and summer drama camp (where I acted as another supervisor/group leader for her and the other children with special needs), and I also facilitated her friend's visits. We would go swimming, to the movies, and to the park to play. She was a very active, young girl, and I loved her excitement about life and exuberance.
