Heather K. - San Antonio Special Needs Caregiver

Profile of Heather K.

Full-Time, 3 Years of Experience

I am 24 years old with a Master of Arts in Teaching and one year of teaching experience in a fourth grade classroom. I have spent four summers working as a volunteer and paid counselor at camp C.A.M.P. in Center Point, Texas and am currently in charge of 12 young men or women with varying degrees of special needs each week. Additionally, I worked as a personal care attendant for a young woman with autism for two school years and as an attendant for a quadriplegic woman for two school years as well.
I love my job at camp because it lets me personally connect with amazing individuals and help them achieve their goals. The children we serve have such incredible hearts and their strength inspires me daily. I have learned so much from my campers about patience, compassion, and how to see the unique and important things in everyone. It has been the largest blessing in my life to work with the special needs community, and I would love to continue that experience through a caretaker position.
Related Hobbies and Interests
I speak Spanish (though am a little out of practice). I am certified to teach early childhood through fourth grade in Texas. I am the chief cabin counselor at camp C.A.M.P. for young men and women, ages 17-22, who have special needs.
