Sara H. - Portland Special Needs Caregiver

Profile of Sara H.

Full-Time, 10 + Years of Experience

I began working with children with special needs during high school as a peer facilitator for three years. It was a wonderful experience, and I continued to work in this field in a range of positions (I have a B.A. in English, but I have always loved this work). For example, I've worked in a group home with five children with DD; as a respite care provider/ABA therapist for children with autism; and I'm currently working part-time with a 19-year-old who is developmentally disabled (I've worked for her family for six years). I love this work because I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunities to interact with and learn from the children with whom I've worked and their families. It's been a consistently challenging and rewarding experience in my life.
Related Hobbies and Interests
Singing, playing, exercise, art projects, reading, getting out in the community, visiting the library, medication management, and personal hygiene assistance have always been a huge component of my various nanny jobs.
