Devon M. - Gretna Special Needs Caregiver

Profile of Devon M.

Part-Time, 1 Year of Experience

When I was in elementary school, I was involved in a program where some of the students would go a few times a week and help out in the classroom with the special needs students. It was a great program and served to help children learn compassion, respect and love for those who have various challenges. That early experience, I believe, helped give me a tender heart for people with special needs.

For 13 years, from 1995 to 2008, I worked at Heartland Therapeutic Riding (Stilwell, KS) as a volunteer. There I was able to combine my love for horses with my love for those with special needs. It was amazing to see how much help the students gained physically, emotionally and mentally from the work done there. The organization and hard work involved was always worth it to see the joy of those who benefited from the program.

I currently work as a Teacher Assistant with special needs kids in the Elkhorn school district. I could do occasional work on a Saturday and I will be needing full time work during the summer.
Related Hobbies and Interests
My education is in art and I love many different forms of art from painting to photography to stained glass. I enjoy reading, horseback riding and experiencing the beauty of the outdoors!
