I have had years of personal experience helping with a special needs child (now an adult)through education issues, behavioral issues and family dynamics. I have worked with my family to find the best way to handle outbursts, confusion, special occasions and more. It is so difficult to maintain the level of energy that a family needs to deal with a special needs child all the time and an occasional caregiver break can bring back your enthusiasm and give you much needed respite. I've done that for years - both living in the home of a special needs child and coming in occasionally to help as well as offering occasional help to other friends with special children who need more stringent supervision or medical assistance (epilepsy).
