Kristen R. - East Lansing Special Needs Caregiver

Profile of Kristen R.

Part-Time, 2 Years of Experience

I am currently seeking my undergrad in Special Education at Michigan State University. For two years in high school, I was a nanny for a 17-year-old girl with developmental disabilities. I worked with her year round doing different social activities such as grocery shopping, arts and crafts, going to the park, going to the movies, going out to eat, etc. We also worked on school work such as math worksheets, different reading assignments and computer work. I met this child while being a teacher's assistant in a special needs classroom during my entire junior year of high school. I became very close with all the students, the teacher and another teacher assistant. I learned so much and absolutely loved being in the classroom with the students. I worked for two years with the Challenger Baseball League. This league provided children with mental/physical disabilities the chance to play baseball against other teams and meet a wonderful group of people. I had the time of my life. I loved being involved in the kids' lives, teaching them a new sport and watching them have a good time as well.
Related Hobbies and Interests
I love to play basketball and volleyball as well as read and staying active. I am a member of Towerguard where I am able to work with the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities. Here I read exams to students who have different disabilities.
