Brittany N. - Denver Special Needs Caregiver

Profile of Brittany N.

Part-Time, 0 Years of Experience

When I was a freshman in high school (four years ago), I volunteered to work with special needs students at my school. We played games with them, helped them with their swimming exercises once a week, walked with them around the track (at school), and was mainly a friend to them. During high school, I also took three years of American Sign Language. I can still communicate, but I could hone my skills. It has been a while since I have used ASL regularly. I am comfortable with helping any special needs person. I believe a caring heart and a willingness to help can do wonders in someone's life. I want to be that person for someone in need.
I myself have ADD and grew up with a sister with ADHD and baby-sat a neighbor who had ADHD. I understand the struggles the kids and parents go through. I believe I have a good grasp on what kids with ADD need.
I have experience with Asperger's, one of my close college friends had it. I understood that it took patience and she needed someone who would listen and support her.
My sister and my mom have both had cancer. My mom is currently going through breast cancer treatment. It is not an easy road to be on, it can be scary. People going through tough times need love and support, and some people don't have someone to be there for them. I want to be that person.
I have experience with epilepsy, my mom has had it since she was 20. I have watched my mom go through several seizures and I know how to handle them.
Why do I have this passion to help? Because Jesus calls us to care for the sick, care for the frustrated, care for those in need of a friend. I do it because I am called to.
