Vanessa U. - Chicago Special Needs Caregiver

Profile of Vanessa U.

Full-Time, 10 + Years of Experience

With my previous employer, I worked with a variety of adults with physical disabilities and mental retardation, ranging in age from young adults to seniors. We were a person-centered environment, where I was able to facilitate the life my clients wanted to live. I assisted in inside and community activities, such as cooking, games, educational, and social activities. What I loved about this experience was seeing my clients thrive in their environment, finding things that they cared about and were good at, and watching them succeed. I was recently personally employed by a family who wanted a school aide for their young teen daughter with CP. I assisted in transportation to and from school, some toileting assistance, and various other needs. Our goal was to facilitate her independence, and I'm proud to say that by her next school semester in January, she will be almost fully independent, while I provided only transportation!
Related Hobbies and Interests
I am a student at Truman College, transferring to a Chicago-based university to continue my studies in literature and art. I love photography, reading, and the CUBS! :)
