I originally obtained a CNA certificate in 1996 through a long term nursing facility. Subsequently, I obtained employment with Manor Care in Elgin. My duties included all aspects of ADLs, showering (I believe first and foremost in personal dignity and will provide service up to the level of the individual needs) acquiring vitals, meal assistant and overall companionship. In 1999 to 2001 I provided home care for an insulin dependent diabetic in Palos Park, she has since passed away. These duties consisted of all ADLs, checking sugar levels and administering her insulin, all meal preparation, showering needs, as well as accompanying her to physician visits, outings (movies, lunch, dinner, nature center, etc.) I also provided laundry service and light housekeeping. Since then I have moved on in the medical professional and have been a registered vascular sonographer for the past 8 years. This area of the profession enabled me to gain skills in basic wound care management as well as expanding my skills in understanding patient symptoms. My father, who passed in October of 2010, was in a long term care facility and I was his advocate and oversaw his medical care.
