Hi!
I have almost 20 years of caregiving experience, originally as a CNA and then as an RN. Hi!
I have almost 20 years of caregiving experience, originally as a CNA and then as an RN. I recently left my job as RN supervisor at a skilled nursing/rehab center in order to lead a slower-paced life and to travel. I have extensive home health experience, as well as plenty of nursing home and hospital experience. I have been caring for the elderly/disabled since my early twenties (I am now 42). I can be fun and silly to brighten someone's day, but I am very serious about my work and my commitments. I worked for an in-home agency for 6 years with steady clientele and there is nothing else I would rather do.
I have experience with care-giving for those who require all levels of skilled and non-skilled care: young and old, male and female, para/quadriplegic, post-op, colostomy, G-tube, diabetic, Alzheimer's, stroke, CHF, Parkinson's, MS, ALS, and much more. As an RN, I am well trained to closely monitor and provide knowledgeable assessments and skilled medical interventions to patients needing a higher degree of care.
I am happy to do anything that is asked of me. I provide all personal care, range-of-motion exercises, medication administration, dressings/wound healing, cleaning, cooking, maintaining ongoing communication with doctors and other healthcare professionals, provide transportation, accompany on travels, and anything else that is needed.
I believe in promoting as much independence as possible, while carefully evaluating variations in health and strength, and responding to the changing need for higher or lower levels of assistance. I strongly believe in encouraging freedom of choice in most areas, while firmly enforcing the need for certain "non-negotiables" necessary to maintain health and quality of life. And I believe in many moments of joy and laughter!
I enjoy cooking (as a lifelong vegetarian that's what I do best, but I can be easily taught to cook meat or figure it out as I go). I am passionate about animals of all kinds. I love nature and the great outdoors. I do a lot of reading, mostly science/spiritual/psychology/philosophy/non-fiction type of stuff. I really love to play boardgames and card games! I enjoy travel and experiencing the world.
I love getting to know people, especially the elderly. Each person is a completely new world to explore. I can honestly say that I have truly loved each and every one of my clients. They become as dear to me as my own family.
