What I would love to do at this stage in my life is be a COMPANION to an elderly person who just doesn't get enough attention. Because of our hectic lives it is hard to spend that quality time with our loved ones and we feel guilty. I would love to fill in the gap for you. I am a warm, compassionate person. If needed I can assist with their personal needs (bathing, dressing and grooming, medication reminders, running errands, shopping, meals) and I can also do light housekeeping. I love to smile and I am an honest person. Growing up I lived with my grandmother (with dementia) and developed a love for older people with needs. At 20, I began working in a nursing home as a CNA. By the time I was 25, my mother was in poor health and needed constant care (suffering from diabetes, a stroke and then later lung cancer). For the next 7 years I cared for her. When my daughter was born I wanted to spend as much time as possible with her and worked part-time jobs here and there. It was after she left home that I decided to go back to my first love which is caring for others. My last care giving job was to assist a woman with Parkinson's. I prepared her breakfast and lunch and helped her with her shower. I would do the laundry and many mornings I would read the bible to her. After she moved to an assisted living home I began working at a Christian school in the early education department part time during the week and every other weekend I work caring for an elderly gentleman with advanced Alzheimer's. These are my current positions. For the right position I would give up my weekly job. Thank you for your consideration.
