Since 2006, I have worked in the care giving sector. I started out as a relief caregiver to family members caring for their elderly parents via the Time Out Respite Program. On completion of my undergraduate degree in Biology and Religion in 2011, I began working with Home Helpers, Inc. in Philadelphia as a caregiver for both in-home and facility care.

As a caregiver, I have been responsible for: medical appointment scheduling, upkeep and transportation; administration of medicine; prescription refill and pick-up; and monitoring of side-effects. With several clients, I also implemented physical therapy routines in conjunction with a Physical Therapist in order to maintain and, hopefully, improve the motility and comfort for an individual. I also organized field trips to zoos, parks or museums, went on walks, and constantly engaged clients in conversation in an effort to stimulate them mentally. All progress was monitored and recorded for other caregivers and family members to observe, as communication between family and caregivers is an utmost concern. Finally, daily tasks such as cleaning, cooking and personal hygiene duties were also carried out.
