I became interested in the elderly at an early age. In high school, during the summer months, I would go around and help my parents friends or church members to cash their checks, pick up medicines and grocery shop. I just felt a need to care for them because it seemed that no one else cared and only wanted money for what they did. That wasn't my goal. I was offered money but would never accept it until one day one of them called my dad and said "She will never have anything because she never accepts anything and always say no to us giving her anything." After that, I just let them give me gas money. Its was okay with me because I loved hanging out with them and gained a lot of wisdom. I have cared for individuals with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. Unfortunately, my mom passed away with this horrific disease. I was an on site manager for an private personal care home. We later became a independent living facility for individuals with moderate to severe emotional behavioral and psychological problems before going out of business in 2008. I find joy in helping those that others seem not to care about or just don't have the time.
