I worked for Dungarvin for two years, approximately 35 hours each week, caring for three individuals in wheel chairs in their homes. I left Dungarvin in good standing in order to take an independent job caring, in home, for the elderly parent of a friend. I have worked for this family for the past 1.5 years, but have recently been terminated because my client took a bad fall (she was not under my care at the time) and now requires medical assistance.

I am a single mother of a 15-year-old daughter, and I have found myself caring for elderly friends and clients for 15 years. I enjoy the company of old people and am very patient with them. My most recent client had dementia and physical limitations, but we had -- and have -- a wonderful, mutual friendship.

At one time, I hoped to be a respiratory therapist, and I completed the program at CNM. However, I was not able to pass the Respiratory Therapy Board Exams. This was discouraging, but I am not exaggerating when I say that I was often described as the best clinical practitioner in our group, when we did our clinicals at various local hospitals. I was disappointed, but I have since found other ways to use my talents in caring for elderly patients.
