Provide nurse triage, physician referral, community and Medical Center resource referral, and arrange appointments. Serve critical link in the patient transfer process. Work collaboratively with callers, internal and external physicians, internal clinical departments, and external physician practices. Provide excellent customer service and assume role of patient advocate when needed. Document all calls completely. Educate caller as necessary concerning self care, appropriate follow-up, and give general medical advice. Assist with directions, hotels in the area, and other logistics of maneuvering within WFUBMC. Refer callers to appropriate community resources as needed. Assist with staff orientation as requested. Perform duties of Nurse Coordinator on as needed basis. Take on-call shifts per month to guarantee adequate staffing.
