I have a passion for taking care of the elderly. I understand how hard it is for them to sometimes accept their new situations. After a life of being independent. To now have to have help with everyday tasks is very difficult for most. Some become angry, others become sad and depression sets in; something a lot of family members don't see and is never discussed.
I try to help seniors ride the new roller-coaster of emotions they are experiencing. I bring a good sense of humor and a happy face to work every day. I take time to listen to them, which is very important. They have a hard time looking towards the future; but can light up like a Christmas tree, when asked about their past. Who they were. How did they fall in love, about their children. How they chose their career.
Everyone has a story they want to tell. But when you get old people just don't seem to want to listen.
