I am currently my father's live in caregiver. He has been clinically diagnosed with advanced dementia. Prior to his having dementia, he suffered from a rare condition (I liked to jokingly call) "Conspiracy Theorist Disease". :-) You know the one, "trust nothing and nobody". If you've taken care of a patient who suffers from dementia you'll understand the joke.
All kidding aside, if I can take care of my father, I think I can take care of anyone.
Prior to my father, I also cared for my aunt. She wanted to travel around the U.S. in an R.V. after her son was killed. She was a diabetic and severely overweight. This made it difficult for her to get around. She asked me if I could assist her. I great fully accepted. I did this for a year.
Anyway, my point is is that even though I have no formal training, I feel I am overly qualified to take care of anyone.
I feel good helping others. It gives me a feeling of self worth and pride.
That's why I love taking care of people, including the ones you love.
