Hello, I am Mary.
I would like to tell you about my experience as a senior caregiver: I was employed at a senior living facility here in Austin, Texas. I worked there for two years as a caregiver for several seniors during that time.
I have great compassion and understanding for the elderly. I communicate very well with them and with their families. I have some experience in working with seniors who have Dementia and other handicaps.
In addition to care giving, I worked as a personalized living assistant. This position required that I move from apartment to apartment, as needed, for small jobs to help seniors remain independent for as long as possible. It also gave me the opportunity to escort residents to doctor's appointments, grocery shopping and accompany them on all kinds of outings.
I enjoyed the residents there so much and they enjoyed having me around, as well. In fact, I connected with them so well that I began to see more and more ways that the I could serve them and enable them to feel more cared about and more at home. This resulted in the creation of a proposal to add to my job description. It was to visit with seniors who seemed to be having special issues such as being isolated, grieving, recovering from surgery and others.
My proposal was accepted and went very well.
My love, understanding and concern for seniors carries on to this day and I am still very much involved with the elderly. I enjoy my own aging mom and dad (ages 83 and 88). I work hard at finding creative ways to increase quality of life for the seniors I know.
I am familiar with many medications and medical conditions and have worked closely with hospice and with families of those who are dying.
In a nutshell, this is my vocation and I am committed to it. Thanks for considering me to care for your loved one.
