This is relatively new to me. I began this path because of my parents. I cared for my father and mother from 2009-2011, both ill with cancer. I have recently cared for a 96 year old female with pre-dementia. I was a companion to them, I've performed grooming, mouth-care, feeding, ambulatory transfer, bathing, cooking, light housekeeping and doctors appointments to name a few. I realized when I was caring for my parents that I have the spirit, patience and compassion to assist those in need. It has become a rewarding experience for me. Although I am not medically trained, as I stated I have performed several tasks on many occasions. Most recently, the 96 year old female is in the hospital, I assisted the nurses and patient care assistants with various tasks, I have learned a lot from this experience as well.
