All of my life I have cared about people. In my younger teenage years I volunteered at convalescent homes (6 years). This past year I took care of my grandmother who was 90. She was a beautiful person.... so full of knowledge and a lot of pride. I traveled daily (120 miles round trip) to make sure that she was treated with care and respect. I read to her, listened to her fears, just sat there at times and held her hand when she was scared, fed her, changed her diapers and just showed her that I loved her. I became friends with many of the wonderful elderly patients at the assisted facility where she lived. When my grandmother passed quietly 3 months ago I was there to hold her hand and let her know that it was okay to go home. (She said home was with grandpa and Jesus). I got to know the hospice people that helped care for her and struck up conversations with them. They told me that I should do this for a living since I was such a 'nice and caring person'.
