I worked as a nurse for 20 plus years until I became burned out by by high patient to nurse ratios and too many days of leaving work feeling I had not been able to give my patients the personal time they deserved. I love older folks. My mother is in her 90's and fortunately in extraordinary health for her age. I enjoy getting to know older people and hearing their life stories. They have a lot to share with the rest of us if we take time to listen. I am the "baby" (at 53) of my family and with my mom and 4 siblings over the age of 65 I have become the unofficial family caregiver. I spent the last year or so caring for my terminally ill brother. We managed to allow him to live out the final year of his life at home rather than going to a nursing home and that was a huge blessing for all of us. I would like the opportunity to help other families do the same for the person they love.
I have experience working with adults with a variety of chronic and acute illnesses including but not limited to dementia, Alzheimer's, COPD and diabetes. I am comfortable performing any necessary dressing changes or wound care.
