I have always enjoyed working with the senior population.
I recognized the work and history that the senior individual has given to our culture and to the foundation of most families. Yet, at the same time , I see how our society (and how some people) seem to ignore and treat seniors with little respect and gratitude for all they have given through their years.
I have enjoyed listening to some very interesting and powerful stories that many a senior has shared with me. I also am aware that one day we will all get to a point in our life where we will need to have someone help us in some capacity.
My mother, unfortunately was recently diagnosed with dementia. I flew down to Florida to help my dad set up her doctor appointments and the arrangements for regular care. Fortunately, my brother is helping them out on a daily basis and my dad is not alone in caring for my mom.
I have seen how hard it is and how sad when one's parent(s)lose their ability to function well. I feel it is very important to give back,(by being patient, kind, caring and just a good listener) to those who have made your life or who have cared for you through out your years.
I can only hope that my children will do the same for me.
I want to be able to "give back " and help a senior( if the opportunity allows), for what could be more gratifying then to help the individual that spent their whole life helping others!
