I recently retired as an assistant to an insurance agent/broker. While my children were in school during the 90's I worked as a care giver/companion/shopper and helper for elderly clients. I cared for a man with COPD so he could remain at home. I cleaned, did personal care, shopped, and managed his affairs until he required a nursing home. I had other elderly clients who were referred to me by Mystic Valley Elder Services. The clients told me they were given a list of names to contact and that I was at the top of the list with a star placed next to my name, highly recommending me as the best person to call. I found elder care fulfilling knowing how much my clients appreciated my help. I enjoyed being with my clients and learned that many older people have a desire to express themselves and be listened to and not patronized. I'm a grandmother to a 2-year-old girl who has brought so much joy into my life. My son is being transferred out of state on his job. My granddaughter and I have a wonderful relationship. I believe a child's early life experience are the key to a happy and successful adulthood. I want to enrich a baby's life and know I can be a positive influence.
