As a caregiver, I understand how important it is to meet the needs of the client. Encouraging the client to be as independent and self-resourceful helps them to feel calm, and comfortable on any given day. The interaction that takes place between myself and the client makes me feel that I'm providing the best care possible. The positive feedback that I receive from the family gives me energy to get through the times that are challenging. Of course I know that is the nature of what I do as a caregiver. Live-in work is what I'm most familiar with, but have done it all: shifts, partial live-in situations, weekends, fill-ins. My favorite has to be partial live-in. It helps when the caregiver who does a live-in to have days for themselves so that when the caregiver is with the client they can focus totally on them.
