I saw my Mom progress through the early, middle and late stages of Alzheimer's disease which ended up lasting many years.

After going through many aides I finally learned how to handle a "total care" patient through observation and common sense. The final aide who took care of my mother, who I am still friends with, worked during the day while I worked the nighttime shift along with the entire day/night on Sundays.

What I, myself, found lacking with most of the aides that I had was that they really didn't try to connect with my mother. The aide that I am friendly with truly cared and loved my mother.

I feel that a person should be treated with respect and dignity. Any person that I would care for would be treated as if they were my parent. I truly enjoy being around older people listening to their stories, playing the music and watching movies that they grew up with.
