My very first job back in 1978 was working at a bank that was in a senior community. I was 20 years old at the time. I learned a lot about the senior community and how much they really wanted to be treated as a person not an old person. I am now 53 years old and I have gained wisdom through the years. I know that wisdom comes from being living life/"old"! I have a lot of compassion and respect for seniors. As far as working with them, honestly I do not have a great deal of experience. However I have had several neighbors that have suffered with dementia and Alzheimer's. I teach second grade and I have tons of patience. I love to read aloud to my students and play games with them. I think that my experience in the classroom has given me the tools to be able to care for seniors.
