My personal journey in the care giving field began when a close friend reached out to me, asking if I might be interested in being a companion and caregiver for her grandparents, both in their mid-nineties. I was not certified at the time, but I was happy to do everything necessary to help them maintain their independence at home, which generally involved cooking, cleaning, and companionship. After about a year, it became clear to me that the type of work I was doing was more than just a job, it was a calling. It was at this point that I decided to pursue a certification as a nurses assistant. I graduated at the top of my class, with a 97 average. I worked for about 3 months as a nurses aide at an upscale retirement and memory care facility, but ultimately found that I missed the more personal care giving experience that one can have as a private aide. At this time, it is my goal to return to being a private aide. With the professional knowledge and experience that I have now, I would be able to provide a higher level of care than ever before. I am excited to take the next steps on my journey as an aide, and look forward to each new experience that I have in this field.
