My name is Brandy. I have over 7 years of caregiving and nursing assistant experience. I have worked in medical specialty clinics as well as private homes. I have a love for working with seniors. I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to live a productive life regardless of the effects that aging may sometimes cause. I believe in promoting, encouraging and maintaining self pride, independence and dignity throughout the aging process. My main goal while working with seniors is to help them to thrive in their everyday surroundings while maintaining a safe environment. As I mentioned before, I have nursing assistant experience, having completed two previous nursing assisting certification programs. I also have a certificate in phlebotomy, EKG and IV therapy. Currently, I am enrolled in an LVN program at NCP College of nursing. My long term goal is to become an RN with a geriatrics specialty.
I have cared for seniors from their 60's well into their 90's both individual and couples. My duties have ranged from companionship to end of life care. I have experience in transferring, med administration (including injections) and stomach/treach care. I currently hold a part time supervisor position at a senior memory care center. I enjoy facility work but I would like to get back into home health full time because I miss the one on one interaction and the ability to cater to the individual's wants needs and abilities.
When I care for others, I like to keep them active both mentally and physically. Within a day I try to do some type of physical activity that fits the senior's ability. I also like to play card games, trivia, read aloud, watch their favorite TV show/movie or whatever keeps mentally alert.
Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, working out and spending time with my children. I do volunteer work with various veteran or wounded warrior programs as well as teen programs my kids are involved in.
