I have a personal interest in caring for the elderly and physically challenged. My husband had a stroke and was incapacitated, non-verbal, and tub fed. I cared for him for 19 months until he passed away. I was complimented for the care given him from his nurses, hospice caregivers and family members for the effort put forth. During that time I developed a satisfying desire to help others by instinctively feeling their physical needs and helping them enjoy life to their fullest physical ability and providing needed assistance if required while giving them back their sense of dignity in whatever atmosphere they desire.
My personal observation is that the older generation of citizens have been somewhat neglected or shoved aside because of the commonly stressed atmosphere we live in today leaving little or no quality time spent with the ones who cared for us. Even though we desire to give them the best of care, it can sometimes be challenging and physically stressful to juggle our busy lifestyle schedules and their personal needs without feeling some guilt.
