I'm a lover of people and I have a great compassion for the elderly. I have two grandparents; my maternal grandfather and paternal grandmother who are afflicted with Alzheimer's and Dementia. Over the years, I've had to assist my families with the care of our loved ones. I've become licensed after realizing that a regular 9 to 5 job only benefited me and wasn't fulfilling. During my recent clinical rotation I was assigned 3 residents in a local nursing home. I was vexed each day when my shift was over because I knew in my heart they wouldn't receive the same care that I offered to them after I left. Many who are employed to care for the elderly or disabled don't have a passion for the care of others, therefore they don't have any empathy for compassion. I'm only one person but I know I can afflict change in the life of someone else. When I am in the elderly stages of my life, I want to be treated the same way that I treat others. Becoming elderly can be depressing to some people because they are often overlooked and pushed to the side. I've finally found what my call in this life is and it is to care for others who cannot care for themselves.
