Starting at the age of 17, because of serious family illness, I became a caregiver in my home. Being the youngest, with no siblings at home to assist, I was left with much responsibility, but found that it was something that I was very comfortable with. More than that, though, I realized how much even the smallest gesture of aid could mean to someone who was ill. Over the years, two other family members also became seriously ill and I easily adapted to the caregiver roles and responsibilities again, and wouldn't have it any other way. I began to realize that as much as I gave, I received in return. I was fortunate enough to have two RNs living on either side of me as neighbors, and through the years I learned as much as I could from them about patient care. I am Red Cross trained and certified in CPR and First Aid, and I plan to become certified/licensed as a CNA/LPN. I I currently a Red Cross Disaster volunteer and train extensively in many areas of disaster relief, emergency services, etc.
