For many years, I was the sole care giver of my parents. It was a hard and emotional job but I loved it. I couldn't have worked with older people right away. It was too emotional for me. Now that my dad has been gone for 5 years, I felt it was time to get back to it. Last summer, I was down the Cape for the summer and I worked for a senior care company. I loved it. This summer my son needs surgery so we will not be on the Cape for the whole summer. My client was a 92-year-old lady. The profile they gave me was that she rarely talked. She would eat very little. I was a little sad I wanted to make a difference in an older person's life. When I got there, it took a few days but she was a changed person. I talked to her, made her food she wanted, and we had a wonderful relationship. She was so happy. She noticed that I had nail polish on and asked me to do her nails. She was so happy. I think that it is so important to talk and get to know the person you are with. I love the 2 extremes I have worked with. I do children during the school year and older people during the summer. They are so much alike but so different.
